It has been a little while since we wrote on here; winter is our busiest period where our daily lives of looking after our skiing guests don’t allow much time for blog writing and then…well, Covid-19 happened.
It was a brutal end to the 2020 winter season with the government giving us 4 hours notice to close on a Saturday night. This was after the ski resorts of Italy, and then Switzerland closed in the days before. The rest as they say is history and I think we shall all remember this year and the lockdown period.
Like many people across the globe, our holiday plans were cancelled. We have felt very lucky to be here in the chalet in Chatel though the lockdown weeks even if we were restricted to 1km radius and carry a declaration and ID whenever we left the chalet. It was quite odd at one one point to realise that our free range chickens had more freedom than us (and one day after walking 200m to retrieve them, I panicked that I didn’t have my declaration or my ID!)
The strict lockdown has now ended and we are allowed to use our bikes and walk in the mountains. The weather has been gorgeous and we have been enjoying the beautiful Abondance Valley as well as working in the garden, which has never looked better. In fact, Chatel looks like a version of the Chelsea Flower Show!
Today, the 100km travel limit will be lifted and restaurants, cafes and other venues like swimming pools are allowed to reopen. It is great news for the industry as well as people that would like to travel and take a holiday. We know that people will want to know what precautions we are taking and you can read all of our Covid-19 measures here.
For those that haven’t visited Chalet Cannelle, it is a spacious chalet for the number of guests we have. As well as your room, there is a lounge and TV room as well as a large garden with different seating areas. The space here provides an opportunity for you to enjoy a serviced holiday – with breakfast and house keeping, without the likelihood of encountering large numbers of people.
There are 3 of us working here, ensuring that all our measures are completed. You will also have the option for your room not to be serviced during your stay if that is preferred. For our cleaning, I have to say we have always been particularly vigilant with our cleaning procedures so many of the guidelines that are now being discussed for hotel cleanliness we already had in place.
We have altered three things
1) changed to a higher industrial grade disinfectant
2) provide hand sanitiser in the entrance and communal area
3) each room will be vacant for 24 hours prior to your stay.
We hope that these measures will make you feel safe whilst staying at Chalet Cannelle and if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us.
Chalet Cannelle opens on 19th June 2020 and you can see our summer B&B tariffs here and reserve online, where booking direct is always the best price.
