Conscious Travelling

At Chalet Cannelle, we strive to provide eco-friendly accommodation that minimises our environmental footprint without sacrificing quality. Your stay at our luxury ski chalet in the winter or bed and breakfast in the summer promises a boutique experience in the beautiful mountains of France. You can also rest assured knowing you are doing your part to improve the environment.

From serving meals with responsibly sourced ingredients to reusing plastics and textiles, we do everything we can to make the chalet eco-friendly. .

For us, being eco-conscious is not a marketing or business decision. Chalet Cannelle is our home and doing what is right for the environment is our personal lifestyle choice that we hope our guests will enjoy too.

Organic Garden

We grow vegetables in the chalet garden during the summer without the use of chemicals. Weeds are removed by hand and pollinator plants are left to protect the bees. Each year, we plant new trees and pollinator plants.

Textiles

Many of the furnishings you will see around the chalet are made by us with sustainably sourced fabrics - either reused, upcycled or sustainably made and fair trade.

Zero Food Waste

We have eliminated all food waste by careful food management in preparing meals and leftovers and scraps either fed to our chickens or added to the compost for our organic garden

Energy Source

The chalet heating and hot water is provided by a biomass boiler using wood granules from a local certified source. Our electricity provider is green and no oil is used on the property. We do use gas for our hob.

Single Use Plastic

We go above and beyond to avoid products in single use plastics. Any plastic bottles you see in the chalet are refilled locally. Sometimes it is unavoidable and in this case, we only buy plastic that can be recycled.

Hot Tub

Whilst having a hot tub is not an eco tick, we reduce its impact by using active oxygen instead of chlorine (kinder on your skin and for the environment when emptying the water) and it is filled with hot water from the biomass heater. The hot tub is only provided for winter stays.

Paper

All paper products used at the chalet are 100% recycled and sustainable certified. This includes the toilet paper which is also non-bleached but still perfectly soft.

Cleaning Products

We use ECOCERT natural cleaning products in the chalet, without harsh chemicals or dangerous ingredients that are all EU certified. No single use plastic is used as they are all refilled locally.

Guest toiletries

Your room includes branded bath & shower products made by companies committed to using responsible ingredients that are ethically sourced, kind to skin and the environment and not tested on animals. We use miniature bottles that you can keep or leave for us to sanitise, refill & reuse. Any damaged bottles are recycled.

Eggs

We have a large flock of pastured reared hens at the chalet that provide our eggs. They are completely free-range and you will no doubt see them during your stay.

Animal Products

We serve meat and dairy products that are French free range and adhere to the French Label Rouge program. These products improve farmer income and strengthen rural development while providing top-notch food items. Where we served meat or dairy from Italy or Spain, this is also responsibly sourced direct with the producers.

Water

Chalet Cannelle is located in the same mountains where Evian water is derived from and our tap water is almost as good. We use a Soda Stream to serve sparkling water and encourage guests to bring useable water bottles for refill instead of buying bottled water.
