What is Chalet Cannelle?
Chalet Cannelle is a catered ski chalet in the winter and a bed and breakfast, known in France as a chambre d’hôte, in the summer. The chalet is a 200 year old Abondance farmhouse and cowshed that has been renovated to a contemporary finish, whilst retaining the old charm with the old wood and features. Chalet Cannelle has 6 bedrooms for guests and we live on site so always close by if needed.
What is a catered chalet holiday?
A catered chalet is the name used in European mountain resorts to describe home-style accommodation generally with a small number of bedrooms – outside of Europe similar to a lodge or guesthouse. Often in France, chalets are also called a Chambre d’hôte, where the owners also live in the chalet and are your hosts. See what’s included in our catered ski holidays.
Where is Chalet Cannelle?
Chalet Cannelle is located in Châtel, the highest altitude village in the Abondance valley and part of the extensive Portes du Soleil ski domain with over 600km of pistes. The chalet is a 90 minute drive from Geneva airport and the closest train stations are Thonon (France) and Aigle (Switzerland).

What is there to do in Châtel in the summer?
So much! If you love outdoor activities like walking, swimming and biking, the French Alps are perfect for the summer. Many of our guests that are winter regulars are so surprised when they visit the alps in the summer and often so they should have come for longer. You can read more on our summer activities page.
Do we need to hire a car?
A car in the summer isn’t essential but there is so much more on offer in the village and nearby areas if you have your own transport so we recommend it. When looking to book, there are two options at Geneva airport – the French sector or the Swiss sector. The French sector is often much cheaper and just a 5 minute internal walk from arrivals but it doesn’t include the Swiss motorway pass if you intend to use those (not necessary to reach Châtel).

No it doesn’t, but the local Forme D’O swimming facility in Châtel has both indoor and outdoor pools with stunning views. There are also pools in Morgins and Champéry that are part of the Multi Pass. A little further is Lavey Les Bains, a natural thermal pool complex with the warmest natural spring in Switzerland.
Is dinner available during summer stays?
We tend to cook less in the summer months although we do cater on request. Generally this is at the weekend and for a minimum of 6 people. If your party is fewer, always enquire as we may have other guests that would also like to eat at the chalet.
