What is Chalet Cannelle?
Chalet Cannelle is a catered ski chalet in the winter and a bed and breakfast, known in France as a chambre d’hôte, in the summer. The chalet is a 200 year old Abondance farmhouse and cowshed that has been renovated to a contemporary finish, whilst retaining the old charm with the old wood and features. Chalet Cannelle has 5 bedrooms for guests and we live on site so always close by if needed.

What is a catered chalet holiday?
A catered chalet is the name used in European mountain resorts to describe home-style accommodation generally with a small number of bedrooms – outside of Europe similar to a lodge or guesthouse. Often in France, chalets are also called a Chambre d’hôte, where the owners also live in the chalet and are your hosts. See what’s included in our catered ski holidays.
Where is Chalet Cannelle?
Chalet Cannelle is located in Châtel, the highest altitude village in the Abondance valley and part of the extensive Portes du Soleil. The chalet is a 90 minute drive from Geneva airport and the closest train stations are Thonon (France) and Aigle (Switzerland).
Why should we choose Chalet Cannelle?
Does Chalet Cannelle have WiFi?
There is WiFi available for free everywhere in the Chalet and although we are in the mountains, we have a good connection. Top tip for non French speakers, WiFi is pronounced ‘wiffy’.
Is Chalet Cannelle suitable for children?
It most certainly is! We welcome children of all ages at the chalet. The Owl bedroom is suitable for a family with a superking double for the adults and two optional single beds. We can also add a small child’s bed to Bumble or Feather and there are cots available for babies. The Moo Mezzanine has a large playroom for children with toys, books and TV plus the large garden is a great play area. For meals, we provide an early children’s dinner. You can find out more on our dedicated children at Chalet Cannelle page.
Does the chalet have wheelchair access?
We are sorry to say that no, it doesn’t. All the bedrooms are accessible via stairs.
Do you allow dogs to stay at the chalet?
No unfortunately dogs are not allowed to stay.
Who are the chalet hosts and chefs?
Chalet Cannelle is an independently owned catered chalet, run by us – Andy & Lorraine. Both passionate for the great outdoors, good food and wine and providing you with an amazing holiday. Many chalets are managed by their owners but in our case, we are your chefs and look after everything you need during your stay. You can read more about us here.
What sort of food do you serve?
You can find out everything you need to know on our dining page
Do you cater for dietary requirements?
We cater for vegetarians or gluten / dairy free diets with as much attention to detail and thought as our regular menu. We kindly ask that you let us know at the time of booking. We can cater for nut free diets but we do not have a nut free kitchen. For any other dietary requirements, please get in touch with us prior to booking so we can understand your needs.
How do you get to the ski pistes?
We provide a chauffeur-in / chauffeur-out service to and from a lift of your choice. This means you don’t have to start and finish each day of your ski holiday with the same route and there is no waiting for a bus! There are 5 ski lifts to choose from between a 5 and 12 minute drive away with different advantages. Read more about what is included for a catered ski holiday at Chalet Cannelle.
Are airport transfers included in the price?
We find that many guests like to either drive from home or hire a car from the airport, so our prices do not include transfers. If you require a transfer we can provide a quote and arrange this service for you at time of booking.
Is ski equipment included in the price?
Is there a hot tub at Chalet Cannelle?
Yes there is! The hot tub is in the garden with mountain views. As we are an eco-friendly chalet, we use active oxygen and not chlorine which is much kinder to your skin and the environment. The hot tub is not available in the summer
What is there to do in Châtel in the summer?
So much! If you love outdoor activities like walking, swimming and biking, the French Alps are perfect for the summer. Many of our guests that are winter regulars are so surprised when they visit the alps in the summer and often so they should have come for longer. You can read more on our summer activities page.
Do we need to hire a car?
A car in the summer isn’t essential but there is so much more on offer in the village and nearby areas if you have your own transport so we recommend it. When looking to book, there are two options at Geneva airport – the French sector or the Swiss sector. The French sector is often much cheaper and just a 5 minute internal walk from arrivals but it doesn’t include the Swiss motorway pass if you intend to use those (not necessary to reach Châtel).
Does Chalet Cannelle have a swimming pool?
No it doesn’t, but the local Forme D’O swimming facility in Châtel has both indoor and outdoor pools with stunning views. There are also pools in Morgins and Champéry that are part of the Multi Pass. A little further is Lavey Les Bains, a natural thermal pool complex with the warmest natural spring in Switzerland.
Is dinner available during summer stays?
We tend to cook less in the summer months although we do cater on request. Generally this is at the weekend and for a minimum of 6 people. If your party is fewer, always enquire as we may have other guests that would also like to eat at the chalet.
