Once the snow has melted, Chatel becomes green and lush revealing the expansive walking trails on the mountains. There are an impressive 90km network of walking trails that are well maintained and sign posted, within and around the Abondance villages as well as high up among the peaks.

HIKING TRAILS
The walking trails in Châtel and the Abondance Valley are extensive and offer something for all abilities. From a one hour gentle stroll to a full day or even multi day hike, there is something for everyone. With the local lakes, river and peaks, it’s easy to discover beautiful views, flowers and wildlife on every path.
The famous GR5 route passes nearby to Chalet Cannelle with the option to complete sections of the route on different hikes.
Guides and maps are available in the chalet and we are always on hand to recommend a good hike. We love to walk and still making our way through the 100’s of trails on offer in the Portes du Soleil, we have a few mentioned on our blog too.

CHAIRLIFTS AND CABLE CARS
Once higher up, by chair lift, car or by foot, the views and scenery of the Massif du Chablais are stunning. There are opportunities to take in the famous peaks of Mont Blanc, the Eiger and the Matterhorn.
The impressive seven summits of the Dents du Midi are local to Châtel and we can recommend a number of vantage points to view them, including our balcony – particularly when a sunset turns them a magnificent pink.
The chairlifts operate for walkers between June & September
