There are plenty of walking routes in La Chapelle d’Abondance and this is one of my favourites with beautiful views and you can often see chamois (mountain goats) and marmottes. Allow about 2 hours with the drive, a break and photo stops.
Driving up from La Chapelle D’Abondance, past the top of the La Pantiaz cable car you get to the end of the road at Sevan. There are quite a lot of routes that start here – this one heads west to Lac d’Arvouin.
The start of the route that leads you to the lake is easy and possible with children. Walking around the lake, there are two routes up to the view points of Tete D’avalanche & the Col du Serpentin. The first one you reach is marked Col du Serpentin and is a steepish / rough trail up. I prefer to walk up this than down it! Alternatively, pass this signpost and follow the wider easier trail to Tête de l’Avalanche.
Once you at the top, you are on the ridgeline between the two viewpoints and it is a 5 minute walk between them with great views to Mont Blanc. Once at Tête de l’Avalanche, follow the signs back to the Lac D’Arvouin and return the way you came to your car.
